We won’t get as much time to talk about dataviz in class as I’d like, but it’s a fascinating area of practice that you may like to spend some time exploring.
Here are some step-by-step guides and tutorials I’ve written for my DH students. They’ll teach you how to use the dataviz package Tableau. I’ve also written a detailed tutorial for Flourish, which is a web-based visualization tool that some students prefer.
For more on Tableau, I found this book really helpful (UCLA people can access for free). You can also find other great books and courses on Tableau (and data visualization in general) via UCLA’s subscription to O’Reilly.
And don’t forget the materials available via LinkedIn Learning (LAPL patrons get free access).
Some other favorite books on dataviz: Storytelling with Data, The Functional Art, and Visualize This.
