The website I explored was John Ashbery’s Nest. http://s3.amazonaws.com/vr.ashberyhouse.yale.edu/index.html#. This focused on a scholarly website that traveled through out his life. This website was based off of his lifespan and read off the poems he wrote back in the day. It displayed his successful career as a poet and allowed me to see certain pictures of what he was writing about. For the sources within this website, I saw the use of video right from the start. They use a first person view of walking into the Hudson house, which brought me to the home page. Another video I viewed was a virtual tour that provided me insight of his life and amazing graphics of his house. I was able to see inside each room and it allowed me to feel as if I was really there. There was also a short film that I was able to view along with other videos. In addition to the videos, there are 360 view of images. The view of the room allowed me to drag and pull to see different views and angles. Also, there is sound used in this website as well. There is a voice over view being used when I clicked on the “I” button. When I did this, it had his voice reading me his poem or telling me facts about his life. When I clicked on this, I also got to see images of artifacts such as: A Persian bowl and a Korean Chest, in which he is talking about. It allows me to visualize while he is speaking. In this website, they also take excerpts from past interviews and use it to help elaborate on certain images. For the processing aspect, I saw digitalized videos being used. They had to use a digital camera in order to tape the walk through the front door. They also had to use a camera to tape the short film of his life and for the virtual tour. They had to take pictures of the house in order to upload them to the site and use it as a way for us to interact and feel as if we are actually there. This website is very segmented because you are able to click on multiple buttons, which brought me to different topics of the website. I could also click on the image, which brought me to a new page that has a write up on the artifact or image. This website is obviously presented as interactive and it is very visualized. The many different segments and virtual tours helped me engage and allowed me to feel as if I was actually in the Hudson house.
