A Suburban Weekend

“A Suburban Weekend” by Lisa Taddeo is a short story about the adventures and lives of two rich twenty-seven year olds living in New York. The author shows how their affluent families have led the two girls to not have a care in the world and spend their days at country clubs and sleeping with random people.

My fusion table shows how these two girls’ lives overlap in terms of who they interact with and sleep with. I chose to display the connections between all the characters who were mentioned in the story. Whereas this fusion table showed each of the two girl’s networks, it didn’t show which relationships were stronger than others.

I believe that this fusion table would help clarify messy relationships between characters in longer novels. This short story already mapped out most of the relationships pretty clearly so the fusion table offered little value there.

  1. Hi! This sounds like an interesting story and I like how you said that the fusion table would “help clarify messy relationships.” The map works well with this story because of the interactions the girls had with the same people, and it would be helpful in longer novels where protagonists interact with several of the same people but not necessarily each other. Great job!

  2. Nice blog post and table! I wish you had provided a summary for the story and why you chose to create such a table. However, I think you did a good job illustrating the overlapping of relationship in the chart. Based on this chart it clearly seems that these individuals may have both had romantic relationships with one of the same people.

  3. For whatever reason i was not granted permission to see your fusion table — perhaps that should be changed. However, based on the screenshot you provided in your post coupled with your description of the story,, it seems that the fusion table would be of great service in providing the reader elucidation regarding the relationships among characters in the story.
