OpenRefine

OpenRefine is a very versatile tool that will be very useful in cleaning up Group 8’s very large data set. We are studying York City Probate data from 1700-1800. Although the data is already organized nicely, OpenRefine is great for ridding the data set of empty records, and unnecessary information. The ‘Facet’ function is good for exploring the data that was collected in specific years within our data set, as well as organizing the items which were accounted for. I would like to know a way in which we can easily categorize specific items that were cataloged (qualitative data) without having to manually categorize each record.
