Week 8: The Headless Woman

In The Headless Woman, the mothers head was chopped off by her husband so he could have more room in bed. The headless mother tries to look for her three kids and leaves a trail of her blood so they can find her. They clean her blood from the ground until they find her and she tells them to look for her head. On the fourth day of searching they come across it in the yard, but they unfortunately cleaned the blood off the ground and can no longer find their mothers body now. When the oldest son comes across her weak body from blood loss, he cannot even scream. He is mute, or pretending to be.

  1. This seems like a really interesting short story. From this network diagram I can see that the characters’ relationships are pretty straight-forward so I dont really see the value add here.

  2. The story seems like a great thriller. I think the network graph could be better if the father is included in it. Besides, you could also use apply weight to the edges in order to show the closeness between the mother and her sons.

  3. The story you chose seems to be very interesting, but straightforward. In this case, using fusion graphs wouldn’t be very helpful in adding depth to understanding the story considering that there are little characters with direct relationships. What limitations do you think your fusion graph has?

  4. Hi,
I really enjoy how straightforward you were with your summary. Like the comments mentioned above, I think it would be beneficial if you made your network diagram larger so the networks are clearer.

  5. Happy to see that you chose this story since it seems that most people chose to write about the Atwood story. I appreciate your concise summary of the story, however I’m curious as to why you did not include the father in your fusion table? The mother would not have lost her head without the father.
