This blogpost shows a networking graph concerning the characters in the short-story “Sorry to disturb You”, by Jack Underwood. Briefly put, this story is about a man who finds himself as a accessory assistant at a funeral home known as Holroyd’s Funeral Directors. He works alongside Mr. and Mrs. Holyrod, co-owners of the funeral home, and Jonty, the resident embalmer. Simon, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Holyrod, and is briefly mentioned in the short story because his picture is placed in jack’s office. The map (below) does a great job in detailing this simple network. It remains to be asked, to what extent is this graphical operation useful?

I suppose this graph would be useful if there were more characters and relationships that could be illustrated, for example a hierarchy of roles in a company or an extensive family tree. I liked the simplicity of your network graph but perhaps there could be other ways of showcasing what sort of relationships the characters hold towards one another? Like based on their conversations or actions or attitudes?
