I expect my group to find OpenRefine extremely useful in our exploration of our research questions being their analysis of the photos origins. The raw data of our project is extremely messy, we will need to utilize OpenRefine’s of eliminating white spaces, merging characters and transforming existing characters.
There are many ways my group can go about restructuring our metadata for efficiency. The raw data provided, takes the form of different uniforms. I would limit the metadata of dates pertaining to creation dates, birthdays and dates of deaths to years rather than days and months. I also believe that a lot of the data that was provided will not be needed for out project. Our research questions center around the artist taking the pictures and what they are trying to communicate through their photos, information such as measurements are not relevant in communicating that narrative.
