This dataset’s title already differentiates itself from similar datasets by setting a numerical floor on what data points are included. All the properties, presumably, in this table are worth more than 100,000 dollars. Once you’re inside and analyze the separate categories, the ontology is actually very concise and straightforward. On top of that, it is also extremely thorough: it gives all the building’s physical properties including the nitty gritty about its location, owner description, then it also describes the work done and who did it.
A wide group of people would definitely benefit from this dataset, although all would be related to real estate. The first obvious usage is just real estate recording keeping. All this information is extremely well versed and covers a lot of the nitty gritty about a property. One can definitely take this set as thorough and use it just for records. Another group is obviously people looking to buy or rent a property and wants to know the valuation of the property/unit and what work was done to it to possibly affect it or their living conditions. This dataset is really good for an investor (as long as he has more than 100k to invest with) because he also can see who owns it now, the valuation, and how the work can affect the value in the long run or how the property’s characteristics will affect its long term value. Also good for an investor looking for something in a certain area with certain characteristics. These records are also good for the people who are doing work such as landscapers, remodeling services or renovators to see what previous work was done and what options are left to either repair or add on to the building and how that will affect it’s value or properties.
Obviously, the biggest piece that is missing is properties under 100k. The properties prices in California are sky high, but I’d assume there are still some kind of properties under 100k. These could be good for investors that don’t have 100k in capital, but are looking for something they can fix up and make a profit off of or something they want to hold on to in the short term.
Overall this is a great dataset and does exactly what it is intended to do for its target audience!
