That linked article will already have hypothes.is activated, and you&#8217;ll be automatically logged in to hypothes.is via a special account associated with BruinLearn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in order to activate hypothes.is on an &#8220;annotation bank&#8221; article, you&#8217;ll have to take a few extra steps, like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a hypothes.is account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install the hypothes.is extension or bookmark.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make &#8220;private&#8221; annotations on the article of your choice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Export your annotations as a JSON file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit that file via BruinLearn.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a hypothes.is account<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the hypothes.is website, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.hypothes.is\/start\/\">create a new account<\/a> linked to your email address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install the hypothes.is extension or bookmarklet.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To activate hypothes.is on a webpage, you need to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.hypothes.is\/start\/#:~:text=Add%20Hypothesis%20to%20your%20browser.\">install an extension or bookmarklet<\/a> for your browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari). It&#8217;s usually a one-click process. Once you&#8217;ve installed it, you can use hypothes.is to annotate any page or PDF on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Navigate to the article you&#8217;d like to annotate.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your browser to open the article you&#8217;ve chosen to annotate. You&#8217;ll find the link alongside the article on the <a href=\"https:\/\/miriamposner.com\/classes\/dh187s25\/assignments\/annotation-bank\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"126\">annotation bank<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Click on the hypothes.is extension or bookmarklet<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"144\" height=\"77\" src=\"https:\/\/miriamposner.com\/classes\/dh187s25\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2025\/04\/bookmarklet.png\" alt=\"chrome's toolbar shows a number of extensions. The hypothesis extension is circled.\" class=\"wp-image-241\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>To activate hypothesis on the article you&#8217;ve opened, click on the extension or bookmarklet you installed in the second step. You&#8217;ll be prompted to log in. Use the account you created in the first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Select the text you want to annotate.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This part is almost the same as the group annotation project.
