Create a Carto account<\/h3>\n

  1. Go to the Carto sign up page<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    <\/a>Create your first map<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Once logged in, look for the following button:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/p>\n

      2. Choose “Data library”, then click on the search (magnifying glass)<\/p>\n

      <\/p>\n

      3. In the search box, enter “earthquake”<\/p>\n

      4. Find the dataset titled \u201cRealtime Earthquakes\u201d provided by the U.S. Geological Survey. Click on it and press the Create Map button.

      • You should now be on the builder page:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Here you can stylize the layers by clicking on the layer. Let’s start by seeing what our data has to offer and click on “all_day”<\/p>\n

        Let’s look at our data, by clicking the button on the lower right corner:<\/p>\n

        Start by clicking on the Data tab:<\/p>\n

        Now let’s look for some interesting data, say mag for “magnitude” of the earthquakes:<\/p>\n

        Here we can add the data as a widget by checking the box.<\/p>\n

        Notice the distribution on the right side, this is our data!<\/p>\n

        You can check “auto style” to have the data styled automatically.<\/p>\n

        Let’s look at changing our map by clicking on “Style”:<\/p>\n

        You can change the style by moving the bar to the right:<\/p>\n

        Experiment with other options: size, operation, etc.<\/p>\n

        Explaining your map: The legend!<\/h3>\n

        Click on “LEGEND” to access the following panel:<\/p>\n

        Here is the legend for editing the legend panel!<\/p>\n

        1. Here you can edit the title of the layer.\r\n2. Here you can change the legend type.\r\n3. Here you can change different legend elements.<\/pre>\n
        Return to the main layers page by clicking the back icon.<\/p>\n

        Here you can also change the base map in the layer options:<\/p>\n
