I’m interested in this notion of self-imposed constraints as I find it extremely relatable for myself. Personally it’s still an on-going struggle to bring myself out of the social comfort zone I constructed throughout my life. Perhaps for some users, they rely on these digital communication devices as some form of a defense mechanism against the big, bad world. The scene of the little boy’s online encounter suggests key themes relevant to our course. It’s alarming, discomforting, and funny all at the same time. Why? Our instinct is to protect this innocent boy, but does he even fully understand the sexuality of this conversation? Can we really blame his older brother for being so blunt when he’s still so young as well? Looking back, I remember watching this film when I was about 14 and not fully comprehending what was going on. Just like the young boy, I was with an older teenage sisterly girl who watched this film with me. This scene was forever seared into my mind and my interpretation of the film progressed as I grew up. The film was inappropriate for my age then, but I now consider it almost as a milestone in this complex process of growing up. I think there’s a lot to unravel from this film that is very relevant to our class and I hope we can discuss this further in our next meeting.

At first the clip made me laugh so hard I almost cried but then the longer I watched the more engrossed I became and a little uncomfortable with what was happening but in a good way. I feel like we are all seeking those same connections and while some people seek them in inappropriate or just not as fully thought out practices,we all want the same result.
