He consults, publishes, presents, and teaches widely on digital strategy,&nbsp;cultural heritage&nbsp;collections,&nbsp;data literacy, digital scholarship, and data curation. He is Principal Investigator of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation supported&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/collectionsasdata.github.io\/part2whole\/\" target=\"_blank\">Collections as Data: Part to Whole<\/a>&nbsp;and past Principal Investigator of the Institute of Museum and Library Services supported,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/collectionsasdata.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\">Always Already Computational: Collections as Data<\/a>. He is the author of the library community research agenda&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/oc.lc\/responsibleoperations\" target=\"_blank\">Responsible Operations: Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI in Libraries<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas is a member of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/ach.org\/\">Association for Computers and the Humanities<\/a>&nbsp;Executive Council (2017-2021), the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lincsproject.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Linked Infrastructure for Networked Cultural Scholarship<\/a>&nbsp;(LINCS) Technical Advisory Board, the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/we1s.ucsb.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WhatEVery1Says Advisory Board<\/a>, and the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arl.org\/news\/arl-news\/4262-arl-awarded-imls-grant-to-establish-diversity-fellowship-for-undergraduates-focused-on-digital-stewardship#.WT7g0BMrKRs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ARL Fellowship for Digital and Inclusive Excellence<\/a>&nbsp;Advisory Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously he was the Practitioner Researcher in Residence at OCLC Research, Humanities Data Curator at the University of California Santa Barbara, and Digital Scholarship Librarian at Michigan State University. Prior to that he was at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign working at the Scholarly Commons and the Preservation Unit of the University Library.
