Today we\u2019ll practice some techniques for learning about corporate ownership and governance, as well as the larger competitive environment in which a product operates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions to ask<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who owns the technology?<\/li><li>Is this proprietary technology, or is it open-source?<\/li><li>If the technology is open-source, how is it governed? How does it propose to sustain itself?<\/li><li>Is the company publicly or privately owned?<\/li><li>How large is the company?<\/li><li>How old is the vendor?<\/li><li>Where is the vendor located?<\/li><li>What is the technology\u2019s business model? For example, does the company earn revenue via product sales, via subscriptions, via selling data? Some combination?<\/li><li>What is the larger category to which the technology belongs?
