(<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/g617ptdoxviczjp\/The%20FBI%27s%20Capitol%20riot%20investigation%20used%20surveillance%20technology%20that%20advocates%20say%20threatens%20civil%20liberties%20-%20The%20Washington%20Post.pdf?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\">Use this link if you hit a paywall<\/a>.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/it.umn.edu\/services-technologies\/proctorio\" target=\"_blank\">educational institutions<\/a> use the test-proctoring software <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/proctorio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Proctorio<\/a>, but <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/1\/28\/22254631\/university-of-illinois-urbana-champaign-proctorio-online-test-proctoring-privacy\" target=\"_blank\">some students say<\/a> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/tech\/annals-of-technology\/is-online-test-monitoring-here-to-stay\" target=\"_blank\">it&#8217;s too invasive<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Another <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/news.wisc.edu\/honorlock-what-it-does-and-doesnt-do\/\" target=\"_blank\">test-proctoring service<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/honorlock.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Honorlock<\/a>, has been setting up <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/2\/16\/22937125\/honorlock-remote-proctor-cheating-honeypot-fake-test-answers\" target=\"_blank\">fake websites<\/a> to catch would-be cheaters and inform their universities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The website Co<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/accelerating-its-vision-to-enrich-learning-experiences-course-hero-inc-raises-380m-series-c-301444320.html\" target=\"_blank\">urse Hero<\/a> gathers and publishes student work and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/course-hero-announces-launch-of-online-educator-exchange-following-successful-beta-program-301436547.html\" target=\"_blank\">teachers&#8217; educational materials<\/a>. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2022\/02\/15\/course-hero-contends-student-privacy-concerns\" target=\"_blank\">Some people say it&#8217;s unethical<\/a>, but <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2022\/01\/31\/course-hero-hires-ed-tech-critic\" target=\"_blank\">this tech critic says he&#8217;s going to change it from the inside<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In K-12 education, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/eusd.org\/departments\/educational-services\/technology-and-innovation\/ipad-tutorials\/class-dojo\/\" target=\"_blank\">many schools<\/a> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettingsmart.com\/2014\/08\/23\/parents-review-classdojo\/\" target=\"_blank\">use ClassDojo<\/a> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edutopia.org\/blog\/classroom-behavior-classdojo-app-lisa-mims\" target=\"_blank\">to help teachers<\/a> manage their classrooms. But <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/classdojo-raises-concerns-about-childrens-rights-111033\" target=\"_blank\">some people say<\/a> it<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/11\/17\/technology\/privacy-concerns-for-classdojo-and-other-tracking-apps-for-schoolchildren.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;s too invasive<\/a>.
