{"id":615,"date":"2016-02-02T12:01:56","date_gmt":"2016-02-02T20:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/miriamposner.com\/classes\/dh150w16\/?p=615"},"modified":"2016-02-02T12:01:56","modified_gmt":"2016-02-02T20:01:56","slug":"week-5-blog-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/miriamposner.com\/classes\/dh150w16\/2016\/02\/02\/week-5-blog-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 5 Blog Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week&#8217;s readings, particularly\u00a0<em>Museums See Different Virtues in Virtual Worlds, <\/em>highlighted questions that I had not started\u00a0to fully consider before completing the readings. \u00a0Specifically, I became interested in the notion of funding and revenue for museums. \u00a0As a World Arts and Cultures major,\u00a0I tend to focus on the content and curation of museums when i am considering them. \u00a0However, as we further discussions about museums&#8217; transition to the digital, new factors begin to arise. As the Gat article highlights, shifting to technology shifts the dynamic of the museum-goers. \u00a0Understanding new ways to determine success becomes crucial within this transition.<\/p>\n<p>With the transition to the digital space, museums must consider and contest their goal with their financial concerns. \u00a0By this I mean to suggest that museums often, when speaking of their digital information, claim that the transition will make the pieces within the museum more accessible to the public. \u00a0However, at what point does making a collection available online hurt the museum&#8217;s profit. \u00a0Will museums eventually become more concerned with making a profit than distributing their information to the general public?
