The project directs me through the pathway to explore the project, which indicates a particular process with which the research and conclusions are to be interacted with. The movement throughout the pages is conducted through the buttons at the base of each page which links to the next step in the project to examine. The project then explains “How to Navigate this site.” When arriving on the page, the navigation consists of free exploration of several subjects in cluster diagrams. There are several sources of information that explain the Chicano diaspora and the economic, movement and structure of the movement based in history.

Sources:

Sources include texts written by those involved in the Chicana diaspora and scholarship on the history, as well. Historical documents are also included in the form of letters from the movement, interviews from writers, speeches conducted at the time, and visual documents such as posters and banners regarding events and photographs. The Chicano Por Mi Raza Memory Collective provides the significant amount of the resources examined on the project site.

Processing:

The data has been both quantified to communicate statistics about the time period of the Chicana diaspora and has digitized visuals to accompany the written research and data. The processing of the individual historical documentation, literature and scholarship seems to have been collected and sorted according to historical relevance, as that is how the information is later presented.

Presentation:

This project is presented and powered by Scalar for visualization of the data, research and conclusion of the project. The information is categorized historically and is aided by statistics and digitized images according to need and the content of that one topic. For example, the interview with Gus, the dog, about Chela Sandoval’s Methodology of the Oppressed is accompanied by the image of the original author and the image of the canine in question. Also, the page contains the images of individuals involved in the stories mentioned about individual Chicana women who were involved in the diaspora. Also, the navigation throughout the project on the page after the introduction to the project maps out different methods of examining the different sources–all which contribute to the overall project.

I was interested in the subject of the project, and the idea of the diaspora and its effects were clearly reflected in the method of presentation which allows the reader to explore different events and circumstances of the Chicana diaspora.

I focused on reverse engineering the digital humanities project, Chicana Diaspora (http://scalar.usc.edu/works/chicanadiasporic/index), which led me to a webpage to first

[1

post-786","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
