I decided to do my reversed engineering post on “John Ashbery’s Nest.” John Ashbery’s Nest is a website that introduces the Victorian home of American poet, <\/span>collagist, art critic and collector<\/span> John Ashbery. The website offers a virtual tour of the house with detailed description and interviews from Ashbery himself explaining each significant decoration and object. The website offers a unique experience for the audience, we are not only able to view the aesthetic displays inside the house, we are also exposed to how each object has inspired Ashbery in his career. To reverse engineer the project, the analysis is separated into three parts: sources, process, and presentation. <\/span><\/p>\n

The website gathered its sources from John Ashbery himself, receiving his permission on digitalizing his works. The site’s sources also include a collection of interviews from Mark Ford, David Herd, and David Kermani, as well as the Architectural Documents<\/a> including the blueprints of the Hudson house. In addition, the project also used the assistance<\/a> of Yale Media, Broadcasting Center, Open Road Media and The Poetry Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n

For processing, the site created a unique virtual tour using 3D visualization, allowing the viewers to experience the space in the real environment. The technique of photography(fish-eye lens) and voice recording were used to assist the virtual tour, the photos and videos are edited to match the aesthetic. To process the information about Ashbery’s works, the creators digitized his poems as well as many written interviews from Ashbery. The poems<\/a> were selected and organized into a collection of works, displayed in alphabetical order, links are added to the page to direct the readers to view the poems. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For presentation, the website is made interactive and accessible online, creating an engaged and eye-catching experience for the audience. The information on the website was organized properly, allowing the viewers to follow without troubles, the menu options of the site are clear with subcategories under the main categories. The search service is also offered on the site in the menu, allowing the viewers to access information quickly and sufficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, I also enjoy the design of the website very much, it is presented in a very simple manner, which makes the beauty of Ashbery’s house stands out. I especially enjoy the fish-eye lens in the beginning of the tour, I think it provides a unique perspective for the audience, effectively catching their attention from the very beginning. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
