However, that is not the only feature this tool has to offer. One can look at the Data tab and find a number of datasets in which to investigate events that may be of interest to those wanting to know more about the history of London. If one chooses, they can upload their own data to study against these maps. Data that can be looked at include crime in the city and deaths caused by the plague and how different parishes were affected by the disease and to what magnitude. The point of view that the map reflects is that of a historian hoping to geolocate certain events to historic locations and how these locations have transformed and changed in the modern setting. This is evidenced by how many of the data sets that one can use that are provided by the website are linked to historic events and data. When one uses a different base map, one that is modern, they can see how that area has transformed or stayed the same, more or less. In addition, assumptions that are made about data is that there would be a correlation with the events that occurred in a certain place and how the city developed around it overtime. We can see this played out by the base maps having multiple time periods in which major change in the city occurred due to construction, political events, or expansion of the city’s population. The map reveals a lot of interesting information about the growth of the city overtime and how some parishes expanded more as the city grew and how others were stagnant or diminished in population trends. The map obscures many time periods from the history of London. Of course, one single map cannot do this but the map used here give a narrative that only describes certain trends that the creators want to tell. So for those purposes, many other time periods are left out while the ones used are here are use to create these narrative of events connected to the development of the city. Much of the data excludes many political events that have affected the city. In an alternate form of this map, it would be interesting to see the movements of political parties through the city or the effects of political or royal affairs throughout the city.

This week I choose the map titles Locating London’s Past, it is an interesting resource that include a number of

[1

post-2633","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
