The importance of tools such as this one is because many data sets have information that is not always applicable or hard to understand and can skew the analysis of researchers like us. OpenRefine is particularly helpful for datasets such as the Contemporary Art at the Carnegie Museum of Art because there is a plethora of information in the data set that needs to be cleaned up. With an archive of over 4000 pieces, there is a lot of information needed to be looked at. There are many content models that can be merged such as the name of the artist. With this tool, my group is also able to remove the unnecessary columns such as role or artist ID that may be pertinent to the creator of the data set, but for us, it is an unknown value and useless for us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week we explored OpenRefine, a digital tool useful in cleaning up data.
