There are 35 columns within the data set which include Job Title, Pay Grade, Hourly Rate, Projected Annual Salary, Base Pay, Over Time, Payroll Division, Benefit Type, Employee ID, etc. Each column is categorized into units of number, plain text, money, percent, or website URL. This dataset is very straightforward and numerically dense, which makes sense because the data was collected by the Los Angeles government and concerns money with is a very clear cut topic. The data is most useful for government employers offering jobs, making payroll budgets, and going through their tax returns. This data is also useful for people looking into government jobs who are attempting to find a job with a certain salary. The data doesn’t explain where in Los Angeles these people work, how long they’ve performed these jobs, where they went to school, whether or not they enjoy their jobs, or any personal traits of the employees. This data can be specifically used to see who the top earners are within governmental department jobs, and what the average salary is for each pay grade.

From a different ontology, one could present this data set through the eyes of the lower class workers in Los Angeles compared to middle and top-tier earners within the Los Angeles governmental system. This information could be presented in relation to upbringing, education, age, and future career aspirations. This comparison could potentially project where employees future salaries, positions, and quality of life. Is there a direct correlation for quality of life for people who work in different departments? Are zoo veterinarians older than witness service analysts? With just a little bit more information we would be able to use a numerically dense data set to answer humanitarian questions.

https://controllerdata.lacity.org/Payroll/Payroll/qjfm-3srk

The Los Angeles City Department data set on payroll is full of a lot of information.
