The data is recorded by the LA city Library department and it is updated monthly. This particular dataset is not geographically tied to any specific geographic location, other than that the data is collected in the City. The content model of the data is a spreadsheet that indicates 13 columns and 44 rows that indicate the month and year for when the data was collected. The information dates all the way back to 2013. The types collected are the date, month, total library visitors, total library programs, total program attendees, total volunteer hours, total web visits, and other types that include usage of emedia, wifi, and cardholders. The data collected here indicates that LA city is most interested in how often the digital tools and internet connections are accessed at the library. This is indicated by the amount of content types are dedicated to these topics. There are a total of 5 columns dedicated to this type of data. I find this particularly interesting because for many low-income households, public access points are the most common way to connect to the internet. In addition, libraries are often the only institutions that give free access to computers for extended periods of time that allow for a user to work on school assignments or perhaps work related activities such as resume building. We could possibly infer that people who do not have personal computers rely on the library for this tool by looking at the numbers for “total wifi sessions” and “total reservation PC sessions”. For both, the numbers stay constant throughout the months: wifi sessions at ~120,000 and PC sessions at ~200,000. PC sessions is nearly double indicating that more people are needing the hardware available the library. This is a very basic analysis and cannot fully tell us if this inference is actually factual, however, it does indicate that PC reservations account for about 20% of visits to the library every month. The data indicates that the library is very interested in the digital aspects of the library, a shift from more traditional media. The data set could have included how many books were checked out a month. A different ontology may have included this along with how many people inquired how to find books in the library. With this, the ontology would indicate that the library is most interested in traditional media and how many people are able to access a library (organization in libraries are often very confusing). Another interesting direction would be to include both data that records traditional and digital media to see how traditional media is accessed in a digital age.

The dataset that I looked at was the LA city “Library Monthly Stats” which recorded the visiting stats of the

[1

post-1533","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
